Permission levels are a set of permissions that a particular user or group is allowed to perform specific actions. Each permission levels consist of a number of detailed permissions (such as: Create Alerts, Delete Items, etc).

Go To Your site -> Site action gear -> Site information -> View all site settings

Site Collection Administrators :-

Site collection Administrators Have full control over all web sites in the site collection. They even receive site use confirmation mail..

we can add one or more site collection administrators.

Site permissions :-

The top navigation includes different editing options like

  1. Grant permissions
  2. Create group
  3. Edit user permissions
  4. Remove user permissions
  5. check permissions
  6. permission levels
  7. Access Request Settings
  8. site collection Administrators
    • Members of the site will have only edit permission
    • owners of the site will have full control
    • visitors of the site will have only read permission

Access Request Settings :-

Here you can enable the options like who can request an access or who can accept the requests on this site when they receive an email request.

Permission Levels :-

There are 5 permission levels for a site

Read :- Users Can Open & view SharePoint content including documents, pictures and lists. They’ll not be able to create, modify, or delete. The users who have “Read” permissions can only see the site contents the can’t perform any operations on the site contents

Contribute :- Allows the user to view, add, update, and delete content. The users who have “Contribute” permissions can view the site contents ,add the items and can delete the site contents. But they can’t utilize the list or library settings.

Edit :- The users with “Edit” permissions can have all the permissions like contribute But he can also utilize the list and library settings as well.

Designer – Can do everything contributors do. Plus create new document libraries, columns, views, as well as change the layout of the website by adding or moving web parts.

Full Control – Users can perform any action in the site, including adding/deleting members and changing their access.

Grant Permissions :-

This option enable us to grant permissions to different people including a personal message with invitation. After adding the user you can add him a permission level which you need to assign to them.

Here i have assigned a Read permission to the Rishan solutions where we can see it in below figure

Now go to any list and check the permissions .

Read :-

Here we don’t have options like New, Edit, Delete and update . In Read Permission we can just view the items we can’t perform any kind of actions.

Again go back to settings ->Permission levels ->Edit user permission

Give the Contribute permission to the user as shown below

Contribute :-

In contribute permission we can add new item and can edit an existing item and we can also delete an item.

We can see many options in contribute permission as shown below

But in contribute permission we don’t have List settings option.

Edit :-

Now Add the user with Edit permissions by going back to the Edit permissions option.

In Edit permission we have permissions like contribute have and also we have list settings access option here.

Edit permission will have the General settings/List settings as shown below.

In Edit permission we don’t have permission levels option.

The site settings only have Look and Feel option in Edit permission.

Design :-

Design permissions will have every option which is available in edit permission and the site settings will be included with extra options as shown below

Full control :-

In full control permission we can add new item and Edit the item and can delete the item

The list settings view in the Full control permission will shown below where we can also see ppermissions for this list access.

Every option will be included in site settings when we have full control access.
